  • Li-polymer battery (3800mAh/42.18Wh)
  • Weight: 8.35 lbs (3.78 kg)
  • MSRP: $3,574 (USD)
LCD screen. The NP8760 has a 17.3-inch LED-backlit screen with a 1080p resolution (1920x1080). The display is quite beautiful – it has ample brightness and stark contrast. The display's glossy surface helps bring out colors and improves clarity at the expensive of glare and reflections. The backlighting is even with only a tiny bit of bleed at the edges. Viewing angles are very good as well – the horizontal is nearly perfect and there is a generous vertical range. Watching movies and playing video games are enjoyable activities on this display; it is one of the higher-quality panels.

Toshiba T100 series laptop

  • Nov. 23rd, 2009 at 6:00 AM
I have stumbled upon a Toshiba T100 series laptop. I think it is a reasonable portable notebook with LED display - the "thin-and-light with longer battery life" type. Spes are from Toshiba site:
Intel Pentium processor SU4100 or Intel Celeron processor 7433
up to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM
13.3" widescreen HD TruBrite® LED Backlit display Supports 720p content, 1366x768 (HD)
Starting at 250GB (5400 RPM) HDD

Toshiba Hard Drive Impact Sensor
Touch Pad with Multi-touch Control
Lightweight at only 3.49 lbs. (1.58 kg)
Long-life 6-cell battery delivering up to 9 hours of battery life
One eSATA/USB combo port with USB Sleep-and-Charge and two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI port
While the "graphics engine" is Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M no need to expect something extraordinary, it should play DVDs just fine using the optional Toshiba USB Portable DVD SuperMulti Drive (sold separately)
Here is Toshiba site of the Toshiba Satellite T100

Alienware m15x Review by NotebookReview

  • Nov. 18th, 2009 at 6:00 AM
The M15x is Alienware's latest gaming notebook, featuring an Intel Core i7 processor, 15.6-inch screen, and Nvidia GTX 260M graphics. Is this monster worth its asking price? Read NotebookReview article to find out.

NotebookReview's Alienware M15x has the following specifications:

15.6-inch 1080p (1920x1080) display with LED backlighting
Intel Core i7 920XM processor (2.0GHz/3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB L3 cache)
Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M 1GB graphics card
4GB DDR3-1333 RAM (2x 2GB)
500GB 7200RPM hard drive (Seagate Momentus 7200.4/ST9500420AS)
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5300AGN
Slot-loading Blu-ray Reader/DVD burner drive
9-cell Li-ion battery (85Wh)
Weight: 9 lbs (4 kg)
MSRP: $3,274 USD ($3,456 CAD)

The M15x starts at $1,499 as of writing; it is available in three colors: Cosmic Black, Nebula Red, and Lunar Shadow (silver). NotebookReview test unit's price is sky-high mainly due to the Core i7 920XM Extreme processor, which commands a $900 premium over the base Core i7 720QM processor.
The M15x has a 15.6” LED-backlit screen available in two resolutions: 1600x900 and 1920x1080; NotebookReview's test unit had the latter. This display was positively gorgeous; it was extremely vivid and had excellent contrast and brightness. Backlighting was impressively even and viewing angles are well above average; this display had near-perfect horizontal viewing and a generous vertical range. The display's surface is covered with a single piece of “edge-to-edge” glass, which means a lot of reflections but a seamless look.

Discrete graphics come in the form of an Nvidia GeForce G210M 512MB, and is switchable to the integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD. A release date and pricing information are not currently available, but the pricing should be slightly higher than the current UL30's $799 USD ($841 CAD) price.

Lenovo IdeaPad U350 Review

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 6:00 AM
Lenovo IdeaPad U350 Review The Lenovo IdeaPad U350 is a 13.3" thin and light notebook based on the Intel CULV platform. It offers Intel processors ranging from the single-core SU2700 to the dual-core SU7300 with up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and your choice of 4-cell or 8-cell batteries for extended battery life.
Some of the specs are: Intel Pentium SU2700 CULV (1.3GHz, 800MHz FSB, 2MB cache), 4GB DDR3 SDRAM (1066MHz), 13.3-inch diagonal WXGA (glossy, 1366x768) screen. About the screen. The 13.3" screen is average, providing decent color and contrast but suffering from noticeably shallow viewing angles. Low-quality TN (Twisted nematic technology) display panels are normal since most of the thin-and-light notebooks costing very little, but some displays are better than others. For standard activities like browsing the web or typing documents you don't really notice the color shift, but when viewing pictures or watching a dark movie the color shift is very noticeable and distracting. Vertical viewing angles are good until about 10 degrees forward or back when colors start to shift considerably. Horizontal viewing angles are a little better as colors remain true except at very steep angles. The screen backlight level is rated at 200nit by Lenovo. The screen isn't quite powerful enough to overpower the reflections off the glossy screen outdoors under direct sunlight. For more points of the review please visit www.notebookreview.com
Gigabyte has introduced its M1305 notebook, which features external graphics via a docking station. The Booktop M1305 has a 13.3-inch screen (1366x768), and is available with Intel Core 2 Duo, Pentium, or Celeron ULV processors. The notebook itself features integrated Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics, however its docking station features an NVIDIA® GeForce® GT220 DDRIII 1GB VGA Card - all to drive the 13.3-inch LED display.

Other features of the notebook include an eSATA/USB combo port, HDMI, up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 320 - 500GB hard drive. The M1305 weighs four pounds and measures 13" (H) x 9.1" (D) x 1.2" (H) with a six-cell 3800mAh battery. Gigabyte claims it can get up to six and a half hours of battery life.  There is no word on availability or pricing at this time.

ASUS introduced notebooks with 3D displays

  • Nov. 5th, 2009 at 6:00 AM
ASUS today introduced two notebooks with 3D displays, the G51J3D and the G72GX. The G51J3D features a 15.6-inch display, 1GB Nvidia GeForce 160M graphics card, and an Intel Core i7 processor. The G72GX's features a 17.3-inch display; ASUS did not disclose other specifications.
ASUS does 3D differently than Acer, using a different type of special glasses; ASUS claims its implementation is better for viewing 1080p content and coping with viewing angle issues.
The G51J3D will launch in December and the G72GX in Q2 next year. Pricing has not been confirmed.

IdeaPad U150 – Slim and chic portability
The U150 is just 13.5 mm thick and weighs only 1.35 kg, yet under the textured red or black cover lies a range of features designed to strike the right balance between mobility and functionality, according to Lenovo. The Active Protection System on the U150 helps protect the hard drive if the laptop is dropped or gets bumped. DigiTimes reports that Foxconn Electronics has been named as Apple's manufacturing partner for its much-anticipated tablet and that the device is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2010.

The device is expected to hit the market in the first quarter of 2010, with initial shipments from Foxconn being in the 300,000-400,000 range, the sources said.

The device will have a 10.6-inch display, and the sources speculated that perhaps Foxconn could secure panels from its subsidiary Innolux Display.

While a number of rumors have previously pegged the display on Apple's device in the 7-to-10 inch range, this report of a possibly slightly larger display than previously thought nearly matches recent claims of a 10.7" screen. Speculation that Innolux may provide screens for the new device conflicts, however, with earlier reports that Wintek had already been tabbed as the display provider.

Finally, the report notes that the device will place an emphasis on e-Book functionality, echoing claims that Apple is aiming to redefine print media with the device. Apple's extended-life battery technology such as that found in recent MacBook Pro revisions, Internet connectivity, and Apple's typical attention to user interface detail are all expected to be featured in the new device.

Each month notebookreview.com compiles data for the number of times a particular notebook is viewed on the site's product pages. This may be not the list of most popular laptops by sales numbers but it is a list most popular laptops by page views at the laptops that users are most interested in. Think of it as "Most Viewed Laptops" list.
The top three spots are unchanged from August :
  1. The Acer Aspire One features an Intel Atom Processor, 8.9" WSVGA TFT LCD, and a choice of either Win XP or Linpus Linux Lite version. I would just put Ubuntu netbook edition.
  2. Lenovo ThinkPad T400 features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 14.1" LED-backlight widescreen, up to 8GB of PC2-8500 and integrated Intel X4500 or ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470.
  3. Dell Studio 15 is a 15.4" screen multimedia laptop. The Studio 15 can be equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo and dedicated ATI graphics. It comes with a slot-loading DVD drive, backlit keyboard, sleek drop-hinge design, widescreen glossy display and touch sensitive buttons. Software wise the Dell Studio 15 includes a unique Apple Mac OS X launch dock.
September 29, 2009 Dell unveiled a 16-inch Latitude Z with a number of high-end features. Here are the specs:
Specifications:
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 @ 1.4GHz or SU9600 @ 1.6GHz
  • Memory: either 2GB or 4GB DDR3 (integrated)
  • Graphics: Integrated Intel 4500MHD
  • Screen: 16-inch LED backlit, 1600x900 resolution
  • Storage: 64GB SSD (default), up to 2 x 256GB SSD
  • Optical drive: external 8X DVD+/-RW, optional 4X Blu-ray combo drive
  • 2MP webcam with autofocus
  • Secondary ARM CPU
-button to its left activates the secondary CPU in the computer, an ARM-based chip that runs Dell's Latitude ON operating system. This 'instant-on' setup is designed to let power users on the go gain access to their email and office documents without waiting on a full system boot
-the built-in webcam has autofocus capability, and it can also be used as a simple scanner for business cards, reading the relevant information off of them and automatically adding it to your contacts database
-For an additional four hundred dollars, Dell has developed a wireless, inductive charging solution. Similar to the recent Palm Pre Touchstone, or a Sonicare toothbrush, the laptop can sit on the new dock and start charging without having to plug anything in. Unfortunately, it's pricey, and it must be configured with the wireless charging option when ordered -- it's not something that can be added on later on. Dell took the wireless idea to heart, though, and also gave the option of wireless docking; using ultrawideband, it's also a bit pricey, at an extra $200. So for six hundred bucks all told, you can leave all the wires behind and just use and move the notebook when and where you want
-EdgeTouch™ LCD sensor sits conveniently on the side of the screen and allows to scroll through Web sites and shortcuts to frequently used applications
- 2/3 inch thin (14.5mm) and 4.4 lbs. (2.0kg) in weight
The laptop starts at $1,799 USD and costs $2,198 with the inductive charging and desktop dock options included.
Thanks, NotebookReview.

Unimall ClassMate PC Convertable/Tablet

  • Sep. 28th, 2009 at 1:48 PM
The Classmate PC is a compact companion with dimensions of 240 mm (W) and 180 mm (D), whose weight of 1.34kg barely has any effect in everyday life. The screen size of 8.9" is still acceptable for the device's size, yet the small keyboard keys pose a clear challenge to adults when it comes to touch-typing. Here you can quite clearly see that the Classmate PC is made for kids!
Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz
8.9-inch , 1024x600 pixel, 5-wire touchscreen, matte finish

The resolution of the well illuminated display is 1024 x 600 pixels with an average display brightness of 158 cd/m²
